The project focuses on a total re-qualification of the coastal area of Ostia. The project involves the construction of new residential areas, recreational areas, a new green park and the recovery of the sand dunes (1).
Regarding the implementation of the project, the project was halted as the public administration changed with new elections, in 2015 several people were arrested and are facing charges due to poor project management (5).

The Ronald McDonald House is a temporary home for families with seriously ill children who are treated at the Essen University Hospital. The house was designed by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who merged the garden and architecture together in order to bring residents of the house closer to nature improving their psychological and health conditions (Ref. 1). The house was opened in 2005 in Essen's Grugapark (Ref. 2). A special highlight is the accessible intensive Green Roof (950 sqm) with grass, herbs, flowers, shrubs, and trees (Ref. 3).

The project aimed to create a garden on the roof in the Bremen Volkshochschule, developed with the help of local NGO, Gemüsewerft Bremen and local citizens. The initiative involves vegetables and herbs growing, educational workshops on nutrition and urban gardening as well as various social activities. It aims at increasing access to the urban gardening space and increase in ecological awareness of the residents of Bremen (Ref. 1, 3).

The Royal Palace of Naples (Palazzo Reale di Napoli) is a palace, museum, and historical tourist destination located in central Naples, southern Italy. In 2016, the rooftop gardens of the Palace were part of the project to renew the historical royal palace to reopen the green space on the top of the Palazzo. The external walls of the internal part have been covered by flowers and plants. In addition, new services have been provided, such as bar, restaurants, recreation areas, providing at the same time economic opportunities and new jobs. (Ref.1.)

The educational project of a roof-top garden was integrated in the public primary school “Ferran Sunyer”, in the neighborhood of Sant Antoni, Barcelona. The project has motivated pupils to enter the world of urban horticulture, creating synergies with other lectures and has been well received by teachers and parents. This initiative aims to recover nature-appreciation values in children through the maintenance of a rooftop garden and orchard (Ref. 1). The rooftop school orchard has been featured in many videos in international media (Ref. 5).

Creation of a green roof with ecological biodiversity, a place for informal meetings and recreational purposes. Is part of the Sveavägen 44 project in central Stockholm, where office space is converted into a modern and flexible meeting place with the environment and sustainability in focus. (Ref 1, 2, 3)

Take Heart charity contracted Landscape Projects and artist Susan Trangmar for the creation of a roof garden at Leeds General Infirmary. The garden situated on the 5th floor is close to the intensive care wards where patients are placed to recover from major operations. The rooftop’s garden ideas developed around the idea of a garden as an escape from the intensity of the hospital for patients, staff and visitors, and the requirements of a therapeutic environment which could begin the process of reconnecting patients to the world again. Sky Park One Islamabad is an innovative high-rise apartment building project, located in the heart of the prestigious Gulberg Greens in Islamabad (2). The building has been designed with a unique concept that features a rooftop level garden with ample plantation. It aims to enhance the quality of life for the residents and provide them with facilities for relaxation within the apartment building (3). The rooftop garden spans an area of 9 Kanals (about 650sq.m) and features 7 green courtyards in the building. The 152 residential apartments are all connected to the joint courtyards (2, 3). Rooftop garden are still very rare in Pakistan (5) and as such, the project provides an example for the green vertical housing in Pakistan with a focus on energy efficiency (1).

The rooftop garden of Nádor 15 was implemented as part of the sustainable campus development strategy of the Central European University. It contains a community garden that is managed by the CEU community, intensive green roofs and green walls as well. The rooftop garden also collects water for it's automatic irrigation system and supports biodiversity with bat shelters, bee hotels and birdhouses. (Reference 1)

The project assumes planting roses and other flowery shrubs in the Szczecin's district of Kijewo. Characterized by heavy traffic, the area has benefited from 'rose gardens' along its main roads and neighbourhood squares as a way of mitigating the traffic noise. The rose gardens serve as natural acoustic screens for noise reduction. The initiative additionally aims to enhance the aesthetics of the area and the image of the Szczecin's city - in line with its long-term brand management strategy "Szczecin floating garden 2050". According to the initiators of the project, it refers to the tradition of roses, which would decorate the same neighbourhood in the past [1].
