Project objectives
- The reason for which intersections were targeted is because the green spaces are regulating air temperature and the humidity of the city but they also decrease the urban noise by 26 %. (2)
- Chemical purification of the atmosphere.
-In parallel with chemical and physical purification of the atmosphere, the vegetation also performs a bacteriological purification of it, destroying a large part of the microorganisms through the process of oxygen evolution and ozone, especially by conifers, and not only
-Urban green spaces are of particular importance also from aesthetic point of view, because it attenuates the impression of rigidity and aridity of any built environment that dominates the cities.(3)
-Existence of well-maintained green spaces also contributes to the growth in the quality of living.
Implementation activities
In order for the alignments to be installed, considerable numbers of old trees were cut (around 759), the areas were cleaned, and later on equipped with garbage bins.
There were found and sanctioned in contravention, based on the legislation in force, the violations of the legislation in the field through specialized inspectors empowered in this respect and 4 fines were elaborated regarding the destruction of green spaces. (2)
