Iasi is a city with a relatively high number of parks and this NBS is part of an initiative of the municipality of Iasi to restore green area affected by the passage of time. The green space in the Orăşel Park was inhomogeneous as vegetation with unpopulated areas of trees (the centre of the park) in contrast to agglomerated vegetation areas. The growth of woody vegetation had in some respects changed the appearance of the landscape ensemble, creating agglomerations of shrubs and trees. As such the municipality took the decision to rehabilitate the area (1)

Implementation activities

The whole area has turned into a lawn, disappearing old bosquets for two decades and everything that means dry trees. Their place was taken by an open space dominated by vegetation and flowers. It is also very important that sprinklers have been installed so that there is no need for daily watering with hoses and tanks `(4)

Details on the roles of the organisations involved in the project

This NBS has been initiated by the municipality of Iasi, with no other support from local, national or international institutions. The municipality appointed in 2010, one of its subsidiaries, Servicii Publice Iasi, to rehabilitate a number of areas which were either gradually transformed in "public toilets" (like the Orasel park), or had high level of criminality due to its very diverse ethnic background. As such SPI implemented this NBS with the approval of the municipality (1)
