Trees and a park have been created and designed for the double building project called CEMAGREF/ENGREF in Clermont-Ferrand which was planned in 1994 (Ref. 2 and 4). CEMAGREF (Center for the Study of Agricultural Mechanization of Agricultural Engineering of Water and Forests) and ENGREF (National School of Agricultural Engineering of Water and Forests) are located within the IRSTEA (National Science and Technology Research Institute for Environment and Agriculture) (Ref. 3).
Overview
Nature-based solution
- Nature on buildings (external)
- Green walls or facades
- Grey infrastructure featuring greens
- Alley or street trees and other street vegetation
- Institutional green space
Key challenges
- Climate action for adaptation, resilience and mitigation (SDG 13)
- Climate change adaptation
- Green space, habitats and biodiversity (SDG 15)
- Green space creation and/or management
- Regeneration, land-use and urban development
- Regulation of built environment
- Promote natural styles of landscape design for urban development
- Sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12)
- Sustainable consumption
Focus
Creation of new green areas
Project objectives
-The project was set up "To use the climactic action of the photosynthesis mechanism to treat the south façade of a building." (Ref. 1)
-To integrate the landscape into the architectural structure
-Sustainable landscape within scientific research and actions (Ref. 1)
-Simplified management without chemical treatment, (Ref. 1)
-Bioclimatic, landscape integration (Ref. 1)
Implementation activities
-"Landscape integration and simplified management without chemical treatment, sustainability of the structure."
-"Plantations of trees and hedges"
-"To use the climactic action of the photosynthesis mechanism to treat the south façade of a building" (Ref. 1)
Climate-focused activities
Climate change adaptation:
- Increase or improve urban vegetation cover to help reduce outdoor temperature
