The park has been upgraded to include newly planted trees and shrubs, a meadow, children playgrounds, sitting areas for adult visitors, a wooden footbridge, and a water retention pond which collects rainwater from the roofs of nearby houses. The aim of the project was to establish and restore near-natural vegetation in the urbanized area, enhance biodiversity at the site, handle rainwater in a smart way, and provide a place for recreation (Ref. 2; Ref. 3; Ref 4). Additional restorations have included the creation of barbecue areas for gathering and cooking, and events are hosted at the space as well (Ref 8). Through voting, wider park expansions have also been approved (Ref 9).

Project objectives

The aim of the project was to establish and restore near-natural vegetation in the urbanized area, enhance biodiversity at the site, handle rainwater in a smart way, and provide a place for recreation (Ref. 2; Ref. 3; Ref 4). The park was developed with the overall goal of creating green space and recreational space in an increasingly densely populated area (Ref. 10). Through interactive QR codes, it is intended that the local community can learn something about the energy cycle in nature, life in the lake and the principle of its supply of rainwater from the roofs of surrounding houses (Ref. 10). It is also expected that there will be water retained by the pond, which reduces pressure on sewer and wastewater systems (Ref. 11).

Implementation activities

The park has been upgraded to include newly planted trees and shrubs, a meadow, children playgrounds, sitting areas for adult visitors, a wooden footbridge, and a water retention pond that collects rainwater from the roofs of nearby houses. (Ref. 2; Ref. 3; Ref. 4). There are also educational elements (a QR code) that were installed to inform the public (Ref 11). Public voting for further improvements were made in June of 2020, and the approved plan envisages the placement of crawling fun structures in the prepared sloping terrain below Svážná Street, as well as a set of elements for exercises intended for older children and adults. Dozens of new trees, shrubs and plants will be planted in the place of the sports ground to separate the area from the road leading to Kohoutovice. (Ref. 9).
