Park Lužánky underwent extensive reconstruction between 1991-2012 through five phases (Ref 2) to restore a recreational hub of the city's largest park through ecologically sound design (Ref. 1; Ref. 2). Each phase worked restored different sections of the park. This included modification of green areas, landscaping (treatment of trees, planting new trees and perennial plants, restoration of grasslands), building a children's playground, a fitness park, and an artificial water element that imitates the former stream of the river Ponávka. (Ref. 1).

Maintenance and management of urban nature, Ecological restoration of ecosystems, Management and improved protection of rivers and other blue areas
Project objectives
The completed project goals include:
- Restore a recreational hub of the city's largest park through ecologically sound design (Ref. 1; Ref. 2)
- Preserve cultural heritage through the establishment of a stream that replicates the once featured (and later redirected) river Ponavka (Ref. 1, Ref. 4) and restoration of existing areas of historical importance (Ref 2.)
Implementation activities
The implementation of the project occurred between 1991-2012 through five phases (Ref 2.). Each phase worked restored different sections of the park. Landscaping efforts were undertaken (helping existing trees, planting new trees, restoration of grasslands, creation of perennials flower beds, etc.) (Ref 1.), recreational areas were established (ping-pong, sporting fields, bmx, children’s playgrounds, exercise equipment), benches were placed, a maze was landscaped, and roadways were repaired (Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 6). One of the most significant activities was the establishment of a creek that runs through the park that is reminiscent of the Ponávka river, which was established in the 5th stage, which contains fish and attracted other wildlife (Ref. 4). This stream pumps water from a lagoon to its source where it then travels down a slightly graduated decline back to the lagoon (Ref. 4). Monuments and statues were also placed in the park (Ref. 2).
