Overview

Nature-based solution

  • Nature on buildings (external)
  • Green roofs

Key challenges

  • Climate action for adaptation, resilience and mitigation (SDG 13)
  • Climate change adaptation
  • Water management (SDG 6)
  • Stormwater and rainfall management and storage
  • Green space, habitats and biodiversity (SDG 15)
  • Green space creation and/or management
  • Regeneration, land-use and urban development
  • Promote natural styles of landscape design for urban development
  • Health and well-being (SDG 3)
  • Creation of opportunities for recreation

Focus

Creation of new green areas

Project objectives

1. Aesthetic improvement of the clinic building (Ref. 1) 2. Improvement of living and working conditions of patients and doctors (Ref. 1) 3. Creation of a recreational facility for clinic's patients (Ref. 1) 4. Increase of biodiversity (Ref. 1)

Implementation activities

1. Total area of 370 m² of new green space installed (1) 2. Walkways and benches installed (1) 3. Rainwater storage. This type of Optigreen green roof retains ca. 60-70 % of annual rainfall. As a result, incidents caused by heavy rains are reduced by 50 – 100 % and water discharge to the sewer system is delayed (Ref. 6) 4. Improvement of the (micro-) climate through evaporation and transpiration. The retained rainwater evaporates and cools the surroundings (Ref. 6).
